Our attackers appeared to spring from nowhere. But I am fairly sure they were hiding in the caves below the cliffs. The other men ran out of the sea.

As the net came down, Aragon was already fighting, while his warriors were racing along the beach toward us. Swords flashed and there was shouting, and the sort of cursing one hears only in films for the whole family.

The people who had gotten hold of Jet and myself, however, were already dragging the net into the water. Even my teeth were unable to bite through the strands of the net. It seemed quite flimsy, but as this place is unreal, I suppose an unbreakable net might exist. The black water covered us.

Two points:

Point 1. It is normally impossible for humans and other land animals to breathe underwater without diving gear and oxygen. Nevertheless, I could see at once that not only the Sea People (who seem quite human but are actually only more characters from the movies) could breathe, but that Jet was breathing, too, exactly like she had out in the air. The seawater is faintly salty in smell, and is felt slightly against the skin, but in no other way, chemical or organic, is it at all like any sea, either on Earth or any of the habitable planets (such as Obelisk.) I have been unable to analyze what this sea is made of.

Point 2. Jet was unconscious. This concerned me only for a moment, because the next second so was I. It’s fairly obvious that a robot dog, let alone an S C Deluxe, simply can’t become unconscious, unless it switches off its mechanism on purpose. I hadn’t. Yet unconscious I was.

And so we were hauled through and down into the strange ocean of Indigara, and neither of us saw any of the journey.

When I came to, however, I found that my brain had worked out the real name of the Sea Queen Bekmira Ren, and therefore who she must really be.
